Oroville Hospital's Community Farmers' Market Begins

06.01.2012

Oroville, CA – It’s that time of year again!  OrovilleHospital’s Community Farmers’ Market is now open and goes all summer long through September.  Go check out all the fresh locally grown fruits, vegetables, bread, and more.  The famers’ market is held every Wednesday, rain or shine, on the grass area at the west side of Oroville Hospital from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Bring your friends, family, and neighbors, everyone is invited!

Fruits and vegetables offer numerous nutritional advantages. They contain all sorts of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.  Many are high in fiber.  Based on the most recent Dietary Guidelines published by the USDA, even just 2 ½ cups of fruits and vegetables daily can protect against heart disease and stroke.  And there’s more: It’s easier to lose weight when you increase your consumption of fruits and vegetables. This simple step can help reduce the risks associated with obesity, diabetes, and hypertension.

If you have any questions or suggestions while attending the farmers’ market there is always someone to help.  Ask any of the friendly Oroville Hospital employees who volunteer their time to answer any questions and hand out ice cold water.  Eating fresh fruits and vegetables is a great way to be healthy and help support your local economy.  We hope to see you there!
