Our
Extended Care Unit (ECU) is a special place for patients to recover
from a major illness or surgery. It's a part of the hospital dedicated
to rehabilitating patients for transition home, and return to
a fulfilling lifestyle. An excellent team of rehabilitation specialists
made up of physical, occupational, speech and recreation therapists
cooperate with our nurses and dietitians to help patients regain
strength and relearn essential skills. Our goal is for patients
to attain a level of function which will maximize each individual's
ability to carry out the business of normal, daily life.
Our family-centered approach to care encourages participation
and tailors activities to meet the individual needs of residents.
We have an enthusiastic recreation therapist who arranges special
events and entertainment for residents. Piano music, arts and
crafts, games, weekly pet visits (residents can arrange to have
visits from their own pets) are just a few of the activities available
to Extended Care Unit residents. Hospital Volunteers and ECU's
recreational therapist also provide salon services such as hair
styling and shampooing, and fingernail care. On Thanksgiving and
Christmas, ECU hosts our popular "holiday feasts" for
residents and their families and friends.
