Radiology
has come a long way since the early days of x-ray machines. Today
at Oroville Hospital, medical imaging is carried out using the
latest high-tech systems. Radiologists are available around the
clock to review studies either on-site or from remote locations
using "teleradiology" which transmits digital images
over a secure, super-fast connection.
Our technicians are longstanding Oroville Hospital employees
who pride themselves on delivering compassionate care in a friendly
and efficient manner. Oroville Hospital offers a broad array of
inpatient and outpatient radiology services.
Radiography
Traditional radiography, which produces the familiar
x-ray film, is still the most frequently used form of diagnostic
imaging. Oroville Hospital provides a full range of routine radiography
services including chest, spine, extremity, head, and abdomen
imaging.
Fluoroscopy
Our digital fluoroscopy rooms are equipped for arteriography and
balloon angioplasty with stenting as well as renal, aortic and
extremity studies. A mobile, C-arm fluoroscopy unit is available
for use in surgery.
For patients experiencing difficulties with swallowing, fluoroscopy
is also used to conduct modified barium swallow studies. This
involves videotaping the movement of barium (a substance which
shows up under x-ray) as the mixture is swallowed. The videotape
is then reviewed by a radiologist to diagnose abnormalities in
the structure or function of body parts involved in the swallowing
process.
CT
CT or Computed Tomography (also know as a "CAT" scan
for Computed Axial Tomography) provides head-to-toe images of
the body. Our CT scanner is a state-of-the-art machine capable
of speedy, one-second helical scans.
MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging is used to diagnose conditions affecting
soft tissues in the body such as the muscles and nerves in backs
and necks. A mobile MRI machine visits Oroville Hospital three
days each week. A related technology called Magnetic Resonance
Angiography or MRA permits non-invasive arteriograms without the
use of dyes or medications.
Bone
Densitometry
Bone density is a critical marker for osteoporosis. Our full body
scanner assesses bone density in any part of the skeleton with
particular attention given to the spine and hips.
Breast Imaging
We employ mammography and ultrasound for breast imaging. Our brand-new
mammography machines are used both for screening and diagnostic
purposes. Ultrasound exams help physicians obtain a more detailed
view of a particular region of the breast.
Ultrasound
An obstetrical ultrasound exam looks at a woman's uterus and ovaries,
and at the fetus. Our ultrasound equipment automatically calculates
all important measurements related to the development of your
baby before birth. This equipment is also used for abdominal ultrasound
exams not related to pregnancy.
Nuclear
Medicine
Nuclear medicine exams use special compounds which
are injected into a patients blood stream to evaluate the function
of an organ. This is extremely useful in examing the heart and
lungs. Oroville Hospital's Nuclear Medicine department routinely
conducts heart and lung studies of this kind.
