Your Rights & Responsibilities

At Oroville Hospital, we believe that every patient deserves to be treated with respect, dignity, and concern. We will provide care regardless of race, gender, disabilities, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, age, economic status, educational background, sexual orientation or marital status, or the source of payment for care. Oroville Hospital encourages respect for the personal preferences and values of each individual.

We consider you a partner in your health care. When you are well informed, participate in treatment decisions, and communicate openly with your doctor and other health professionals, you help make your care as effective as possible.

It is our goal to assure that your rights as a patient are observed and to act as a partner in your decision making process. These rights also apply to a person who has the legal responsibility for making decisions about medical care on your behalf.

While you are a patient at Oroville Hospital, you have the following rights:

Your Medical Care Top of page
  • You will receive considerate care that respects your personal value and belief systems. We will do our best to respond to all reasonable requests for service.
  • You will be told the name of the physician who has primary responsibility for coordinating your care, and the names and professional relationships of other physicians and non-physicians who will see you.
  • Your illness, course of treatment, prospects for recovery, and medically significant risks of treatment or non-treatment will be explained to you in terms you can understand.

You will also be informed of the person who will carry out the proposed procedure or treatment.
  • You have the right to participate actively in decisions regarding your medical care. This includes the right to refuse treatment to the extent permitted by law.
  • As a patient, you have the right to leave the hospital even against the advice of your physicians.

  • Your medical care will be conducted with careful consideration for your personal privacy. You have the right to know the reason for the presence of any person present during an examination, procedure or treatment.
  • Records and communications about your hospital care will be held in confidence. You have the right to access information contained in your clinical records. Written permission will be obtained from you before your medical records can be made available to anyone not directly concerned with your care.
