Job Summary

Under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, the Occupational Therapist Assistant provides occupational therapy to persons of all ages in various stages of rehabilitation process and assists the patient in reaching his/her maximum potential while learning to live within the limits of his/her capabilities.

Duties

  • Supports the goals, objectives, and policies of Oroville Hospital and Department of rehabilitation.
  • Promotes and maintains professionalism with the Department, Hospital and Community.
  • Delivery of Occupational Therapy treatment under the direction of an OTR.
  • Communicates with patient’s primary OTR at least once a week.
  • Responds to requests for services by relaying information and referral to an OTR.
  • Determines the patients need for services in collaboration with an OTR.
  • Assist the OTR in development and implementation of treatment plans.
  • Modifies treatment plans under OTR supervision.
  • Recommends termination of service to the primary OTR.
  • Monitors patient response to treatments.
  • Maintains appropriate treatment records; treatment plan; short and long term goals; procedural documentation; timely progress notes and discharge paperwork.  Obtains co-signature of an OTR as appropriate.
  • Establishes communication with patient’s physician and other related disciplines.
  • Assists in the development of treatment protocols.
  • Identifies own continuing education needs and communicates those to the Director of Rehabilitation and/or the Senior Staff Therapist.
  • Attends and participates in department staff meetings.
  • Provides in-service education to Oroville Hospital staff and community education within scopes of knowledge.
  • Provides weekend and holiday coverage as needed.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment for peers, patients and community.
  • Portrays a professional and positive attitude for peers, patients and community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Rehabilitation and/or OTR.

Lifting Requirements

Medium – is considered generally lifting not more than 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
