Oroville Hospital to Offer Free Diapers to Every Newborn
Through the Golden State Start Initiative

OROVILLE, Calif. – Oct. 2, 2026 – Every baby born at Oroville Hospital will now receive 400 free diapers, thanks to the hospital’s participation in the Golden State Start program.

Administered by Baby2Baby on behalf of the California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI), Golden State Start is designed to ease the financial burden many families face when welcoming a new child. The initiative, which provides 400 free diapers to every baby born at participating hospitals, has no income requirements, applications, or paperwork needed to participate.

“Welcoming a new baby is an exciting time, but we also recognize how quickly the everyday expenses can add up during a baby’s first year of life,” said Amanda Votaw, Director of Maternal and Newborn Services at Oroville Hospital. “Through Golden State Start, we’re able to send families home with 400 free diapers, about a four-to-six-week supply, which provides them with an essential resource as they begin this new chapter.”

“As a trusted healthcare provider, Oroville Hospital is proud to partner with Golden State Start and Baby2Baby to ensure local families receive the support they need from day one,” Votaw added. “Through programs like Golden State Start, we’re able to continue our mission of helping the community grow healthy, together.”

This initiative contributes to the hospital's ongoing commitment to supporting mothers and babies through comprehensive maternity, prenatal, neonatal, and family-centered care services. The hospital also provides the following free services to mothers delivering at Oroville Hospital: a four-week childbirth preparation class series, an infant car seat, and a follow-up breastfeeding consultation with its board-certified lactation specialists.

Baby2Baby is a nonprofit organization that provides children in need with diapers, formula, clothing, and other necessities. Serving more than one million children across all 50 states, Baby2Baby has become a national leader in helping families access essential resources.

Through its partnership with the State of California and the California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI), Baby2Baby is helping ensure families have access to critical infant supplies while reducing the financial strain that often accompanies the arrival of a new baby. The Golden State Start program is designed to support a healthy start for every California newborn.
