Extended Care to Get You Back to a Healthy, Happy Life
The Oroville Hospital Extended Care Unit (ECU) is a special place for patients to recover from major illness or surgery. It is the part of the hospital dedicated to rehabilitating patients for the transition home, and return to a fulfilling lifestyle. Our ECU has also received a five-star rating from Nursing Home Compare, their highest rating available.
A highly trained team of rehabilitation specialists help our residents to regain strength and relearn essential skills. Our goal is for residents to attain a level of function which will maximize each individual’s ability to carry out the business of normal, daily life. The specialists at the Oroville Hospital Extended Care Unit include:

Our family-centered approach to care encourages participation and tailors activities to meet the individual needs of each resident. We have an enthusiastic recreation therapist who arranges special events and entertainment for residents. Some of the regular amenities available to our residents are:

Weekly pet visits (residents may arrange to have visits from their own pets)

Arts and crafts
Hospital volunteers and ECU’s recreation therapist also provide services such as hair styling, shampooing, and nail care. On Thanksgiving and Christmas, ECU hosts our popular “Holiday Feasts” for residents and their families and friends.
The Extended Care Unit interdisciplinary team strives to meet the needs of our residents and their families. Plans for home health or outpatient therapy may be arranged following the transition to home. Palliative Care is also an important part of the care available on ECU. Palliative care focuses on relief of symptoms from both illness and the side effects of some medical treatments. The ECU also provides end-of-life care with expert and compassionate pain and symptom management.
