Radiology Services

State-of-the-Art Radiology Diagnostics are at Oroville Hospital

Radiology involves much more than simple x-rays to diagnose conditions. At Oroville Hospital, we use the latest high-tech systems for medical imaging, including our advanced 64-slice CT scan. And radiologists are available around the clock to review studies – either on-site or from remote locations using "teleradiology" which transmits digital images over a secure, super-fast connection.

Our technicians are longstanding Oroville Hospital employees that deliver compassionate care in an efficient manner. The Oroville radiologists are dedicated to the safety and comfort of our patients as they undergo diagnostic radiology services. Oroville Hospital offers a broad array of inpatient and outpatient radiology services.

Radiography
Traditional radiography, which produces the familiar x-ray film, is still the most frequently used form of diagnostic imaging. Oroville Hospital provides a full range of routine radiography services including chest, spine, extremity, head, and abdomen imaging.

Fluoroscopy
The Oroville Hospital digital fluoroscopy rooms are equipped for arteriography and balloon angioplasty with stenting as well as renal, aortic, and extremity studies. A mobile, C-arm fluoroscopy unit is available for use in surgery.

For patients experiencing difficulties with swallowing, fluoroscopy is also used to conduct modified barium swallow studies. This involves videotaping the movement of barium (a substance which shows up under x-ray) as the mixture is swallowed. The videotape is then reviewed by a radiologist to diagnose abnormalities in the structure or function of body parts involved in the swallowing process.

CT
CT or Computed Tomography (also known as a "CAT" scan for Computed Axial Tomography) provides head-to-toe images of the body. The Oroville Hospital CT scanner provides speedy, one-second helical scans, minimizing the amount of time for our patients.

64 CT Scan
Also known as the “64-slice CT”, this advanced technology at Oroville Hospital can take 64 images per revolution and reach speeds of up to 3 revolutions per second. This creates a clear, thorough snapshot of the body to provide a faster, more accurate diagnosis. This efficient scanning tool can be used in place of more invasive and lengthy diagnostic procedures and lets physicians safely decide on treatment plans.

MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI, is used to diagnose conditions affecting soft tissues in the body such as the muscles and nerves in backs and necks. Oroville Hospital’s MRI is located at Valley Medical Imaging in the OroHealth Medical Plaza Building. It is open for service Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, so you can have your MRI scan done locally. A related technology called Magnetic Resonance Angiography, or MRA, permits non-invasive arteriograms without the use of dyes or medications.

Bone Densitometry
Bone density is a critical marker for osteoporosis. The Oroville Hospital full body scanner assesses bone density in any part of the skeleton with particular attention given to the spine and hips.

Breast Imaging
We employ mammography and ultrasound for breast imaging. The brand-new mammography machines at Oroville Hospital are used both for screening and diagnostic purposes. Ultrasound exams help physicians obtain a more detailed view of a particular region of the breast.

Ultrasound
An obstetrical ultrasound exam looks at a woman's uterus and ovaries, and at the fetus. The ultrasound equipment at Oroville automatically calculates all important measurements related to the development of your baby before birth. This equipment is also used for abdominal ultrasound exams not related to pregnancy.

Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear medicine exams use special compounds which are injected into the patient’s blood stream to evaluate the function of a specific organ. This is extremely useful in examining the heart and lungs. Oroville Hospital's Nuclear Medicine department routinely conducts heart and lung studies of this kind.
