Kim LaFourche, AGNP-C, joined Oroville Hospital as an outpatient provider in early 2017. As a certified adult geriatric nurse practitioner she specializes in treating the aging population. Originally from southern California, Kim earned an associate’s degree in nursing from El Camino College. For more than 30 years she worked as a registered nurse at medical institutions in California and Georgia before pursuing an advanced nursing degree from Walden University.
Kim’s interest in nursing flourished at a young age after discovering that a younger sister was born with a fatal birth defect. An eighth grade health report researching the effects of the disease further fueled her interest in science and a desire to help others.
As a nurse Kim has cared for patients of all ages, but has always been drawn to the older population who tend to need more care as they age. While employed at a skilled nursing facility she saw the difference early education and preventive health measures can have as adults grow older. She believes proactive health care in the 50s and 60s can help patients have better health outcomes in the future.
Kim’s past as a track and field athlete also nourished a love and appreciation of the outdoors. In her free time she enjoys hiking and being near the water. She also travels frequently to Georgia to spend time with family still living in the area.
