Oroville Hospital’s Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) practice is expanding with the addition of longtime community physician, Williston Hayes, M.D. As a board certified otolaryngologist he treats patients for common conditions such as nasal, ear, sinus and swallowing disorders; coughing and hoarseness. Dr. Hayes also performs minor in-office surgical procedures such as skin lesion biopsies.
“Dr. Hayes has been a pillar of Oroville medical care for decades,” said Robert J. Wentz, President and Chief Executive Officer of Oroville Hospital. “As an otolaryngology expert with more than 30 years of experience, we are pleased to have him join Dr. Chuck Stewart at our ENT practice.”
Dr. Hayes grew up in Tennessee with a father who served as a general practice physician. He spent time working at his father’s practice, which encouraged him to pursue medicine. After receiving his medical degree from the University of Tennessee, Memphis, he moved to the Bay Area where he began his surgical residency training at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Dr. Hayes then joined the Navy where he received fellowship training in otolaryngology.
Following the completion of his Naval service, Dr. Hayes and his family moved to Butte County. He saw a need for more ENT services and opened a private practice in Oroville, where he has been serving the community ever since.
“My interest in otolaryngology stems from my desire to practice both medicine and surgery,” Dr. Hayes says. “It’s a broad field that covers individuals from infancy to old age. During my many years in Oroville I have enjoyed helping the mix of patients who need medical and/or surgical interventions.”
Otolaryngology covers a wide range of medical conditions which can hinder an individual’s normal day-to-day activities. A primary care physician may refer a patient to an ENT specialist to address balance issues; ringing in the ears; smelling, breathing, and swallowing challenges; and speech difficulties.
