  • Graduate of an accredited school of  nursing and licensed to practice in State
  • Current American Heart Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Certification in wound care education such as WCC, WTA, or CWOCN preferred
  • Charge Nurse experience, preferred
  • Minimum 2 years professional nursing experience

Job Summary

The LVN Treatment nurse is required to work in all skilled nursing facility units.

Duties

  • Provide excellent nursing care to patients suffering from wounds.
  • Assess and evaluate patients with wounds and injuries as needed.
  • Obtain cultures to assess wounds and injuries.
  • Evaluate wounds and injuries for infections or other illness factors that cause wounds.
  • Initiate nursing care procedures in managing chronic, acute and traumatic wounds.
  • Coordinate with Social Services and wound care providers and in managing wounds.
  • Ensure optimum patient care delivery in wound care nursing procedures.
  • Educate and counsel patients and their families on wound care processes and issues.
  • Demonstrate wound care procedures to other caregivers.
  • Sanitize and maintain the premises of wound care neat, clean and hygienic.
  • Communicates with Director of Nursing, other department directors and the facility Administrator regarding problems, interventions or decisions made by Wound Care Nurse.
  • Maintains current knowledge of situations which may affect overall functioning of the facility
  • Functions as patient advocate
  • Maintains current knowledge regarding patient status
  • Assists with direct patient care as needed
  • Actively participates in Quality Assurance/Improvement Program
  • Monitor wound vacuum therapy and participate in dressing changes as needed as well as educate and assist bedside nurse in care
  • Appropriately assesses patients and determines need for intervention
  • Maintains a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and an even temperament when dealing with residents and staff
  • Provide ostomy care and education to patients
  • Consult with DN regarding questions or concerns
  • Develop resident care plans as appropriate
  • Participate in staff education activities including but not limited to informal 1:1 education, staff meetings and skills fairs
  • Participates in special projects as assigned by ED or DN
  • Accepts responsibility for care and outcomes
  • Participates in wound care rounds with wound care Physician and Nurse Practitioner.

Other Info: 

Work area is well lighted and ventilated. Regularly exposed to the risks of blood borne and airborne diseases. Contact with patients in a wide variety of circumstances. Exposed to noise, chemicals, communicable diseases, and hazardous materials. Wears personal protective equipment as required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to handle or feel objects, or controls; each with hands and arms; and talk to hear. The employee is frequently required to walk or stand for extended periods, occasionally required to sit, balance; stoop, kneel or crouch.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with help.

  • Exposure to blood and body fluids in Categories I, II & III (see Blood borne Pathogen Program, Job Classification System).
  • HBV vaccination available.
  • Contact with patients in a wide variety of circumstances
  • Exposed to noise, chemicals, communicable diseases, and hazardous materials. Wears personal protective equipment as required.
