  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Experience leading presentations or workshops preferred

Job Summary

The RN Educator assists the Director of Educational Services with the instruction and education of ACLS, PALS, BLS and other hospital educational classes/functions. The RN educator will be responsible for designing, implementing, evaluating and revising academic and continuing education programs for hospital team members as needed. These include formal academic programs that lead to a degree or certificate, or more informal continuing education programs/in-services designed to meet individual learning needs of healthcare team members as well as community and patient education. RN educators will be expected to work with providers, nursing staff, hospital administration, and patients to facilitate the ideal process and relationship to identify and meet learning needs. Upon request, the RN educator will be responsible for rounding on specific units and providing real time education when a learning gap has been identified.  This may involve performing patient care while providing the real time education.  The RN educator will be expected to provide approved in-services, drills, mock codes, as well as mentoring.  The nurse educator will have the responsibility of providing education and professional development to nurses and staff, ensuring competency and providing safe, high-quality patient care.  The RN educator will address immediate educational needs, reinforce policies and procedures, and provide on-the-spot support, creating a supportive learning environment.

Duties

  • Provides instruction/education in at least one discipline: ACLS, PALS, and/or BLS.  May also be requested to provide education in NRP
  • Ensures all AHA courses are taught in agreement with AHA science, curriculum, policies, procedures and mission
  • Demonstrates effective problem identification, problem solving and priority setting skills
  • Designs, implements, evaluates and revises academic and continuing education
  • Designs curricula
  • Develops courses/programs of study
  • Teaches and guides learners
  • Evaluates learning
  • Documents the outcomes of the educational process.
  • Nurse educators helps students and practicing nurses identify their learning needs, strengths and limitations, and select learning opportunities that will build on strengths and overcome limitations
  • Advises/mentors students
  • Participates in professional associations
  • Speaks/presents at nursing conferences if possible
  • Contributes to the academic community through leadership roles
  • Engages in peer review
  • Maintains clinical competence
  • Writes grant proposals when possible
  • Offers and assists in community and patient education as needed

Functional Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to handle or feel objects. The employee is frequently required to walk or stand for extended periods, occasionally required to sit, balance; stoop, kneel or crouch.

Generally lifting objects not more than 25 lbs. and/or carrying objects weighing 10 lbs.

The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with help.
