Job Summary
The Clinical Lab Scientist Intern trains with a designated Clinical Lab Scientists (CLS) in all departments of the Clinical Laboratory and completes all required objectives and specific program requirements as specified by CSU San Jose, School of Clinical Laboratory Science.
Duties
- Completes required training objectives and competencies and can perform effectively all specified tasks in phlebotomy
- Trains and becomes proficient in all department subject matter and can perform specified tasks as an entry level CLS at the completion of each department rotation with an acceptable evaluation from the Department Supervisor
- Completes lecture series and all required objectives, examinations and evaluations as designated by the CSU San Jose, School of Clinical Laboratory Science
- Communicates with the Education Coordinator or Department Supervisors regarding progress of training, individual performance issues or any other areas of concern

Functional Demands
Work area is well lighted and ventilated. Regularly exposed to the risks of blood borne and airborne diseases. Contact with patients in a wide variety of circumstances. Exposed to noise, chemicals, communicable diseases, and hazardous materials. Wears personal protective equipment as required.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to handle or feel objects, or controls; each with hands and arms; and talk to hear. The employee is frequently required to walk or stand for extended periods, occasionally required to sit, balance; stoop, kneel or crouch.
Lifting Requirements: Generally lifting objects not more than 25 lbs. and/or carrying objects weighing 10 lbs.
