Qualifications: 
  • Graduate of an accredited RN Program and currently licensed in the State of California
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • One (1) year recent experience in a Cath Lab with an acuity level similar to this facility OR, One (1) year Critical Care/Emergency Department experience OR, Two (2) years recent Telemetry experience with current enrollment in a critical care course with successful completion within twelve (12) months of hire
  • Evidence of completing a Critical Care Course is required OR completion of AACN ECCO within 9 months of hire
  • Thorough knowledge of cardiovascular emergency protocols, equipment and management
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association
  • Completion of advanced EKG recognition and hemodynamics course
  • Completion of Intra-aortic balloon pump certification within the first 6 months of hire
  • Ability to work in stressful emergency situations
  • Must demonstrate critical thinking skills
  • On-Call coverage will be required

Responsibilities:

Job Summary

The RN functions within the full scope of licensure to implement the nursing process. The RN will assess patient and family needs, develop a plan of care based on assessment, direct implementation of the plans of care for a group of patients, collaborate with the care team, and evaluate effectiveness of the care plan. Duties will include administration of medications, performing prescribed treatments and managing medical equipment. The Cardiac Cath Nurse leads the patient care team, delegates, supervises, and participates in providing direct patient care to adult and geriatric patients undergoing cardiac and peripheral diagnostic and interventional procedures in the Cardiac Cath Lab.

Duties

  • Assists, Collaborates and Communicates with physicians
  • May assist physicians in performing cardiac procedures
  • Orders diagnostic tests according to physician instructions
  • Preparing, assessing and monitoring patients throughout the procedural timeframe. Participating in and coordinating care during the following procedures: Cardiac Catheterization, Right heart catheterization, IABP management, Pacemaker/Device Implantation, Cardioversions, TEE and Pericardiocentesis
  • Verifies or obtains consents for procedures
  • Monitors patient vital signs during all procedures (heart rhythm, oxygenation, blood pressure, level of consciousness and level of pain)
  • Administer medication according to physician instructions before, during and after cardiac procedures
  • Will access and manage pain of the patient pre, intra and post procedure
  • Uses nursing standards and protocols for treatment in critical situations
  • Documents patient information in the Electronic Health Record and Hemodynamic Monitoring system
  • Works with Physicians and staff to organize, maintain and efficiently utilize supplies and equipment to minimize waste and provide all necessary instruments and equipment
  • Assists with disposal of waste materials and dirty linen, in accordance with hospital policy
  • May assist in the development and revision of policies and procedures to ensure continuous process improvement
  • Assists in training and orienting new employees
  • Demonstration of ongoing clinical competency as defined by the facility
  • Ensures regulatory compliance and compliance with patient safety guidelines
  • Assists to facilitate that physiological, psychosocial, safety, learning, spiritual, cultural, and self-care needs of patients and families are addressed
  • Actively participates in supporting and meeting the hospital’s goals for patient satisfaction and national quality core measures
  • Participates in and promotes engagement action plans
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Functional Demands

Prolonged periods of standing and walking. Lifting, pushing, pulling up to 50 pounds, transferring, repositioning patients, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching for patient care functions.

The job may involve radiation exposure. As a result, wearing lead protective gear and a radiation dosimeter is required in some procedural areas.
