  • Current American Heart Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • 3 or more years technical experience in all areas of Nuclear Medicine. Previous supervisory experience in an acute care setting preferred.
  • Satisfactory completion of a Nuclear Medicine training program with current licensure through American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) and valid California State license (CTNM).

Responsibilities:

Job Summary

Manages overall operation of the Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT departments. Provides health care services using radionuclides to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs nuclear medicine procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Exercise professional judgement in performance of services while adhering to medical ethics. Responsible for ensuring that quality, timely and appropriate health care is provided to patients of all ages from neonatal to geriatric.

Duties

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations within the Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT departments including but not limited to: staffing, patient exams and satisfaction, inventory, QC records, radiopharmaceutical records, radiation safety, interdepartmental coordination, licensure, etc.
  • Responsible for working with administration on regulatory submittals, equipment purchase/maintenance/repair, updating imaging protocols and departmental policies, budgetary compliance, etc.
  • Serve as Nuclear Medicine representative when called upon for Radiation Safety Committee, Tumor Board, budget meetings or whenever nuclear medicine representation is requested.
  • Performs nuclear medicine diagnostic procedures with review of patient record and evaluation of appropriate requisition based on approved indications.
  • Maximize efficiency with knowledge of nuclear medicine gamma camera manipulation and processing software
  • Evaluates images and data for technical quality, accuracy, proper identification, etc. prior to submission for interpretation.
  • In agreement with state and institutional policy identifies, calculates, prepares, documents and/or aseptically administers radiopharmaceuticals and/or adjunct medications.
  • Proficient in dose administration through various routes (including but not limited to oral, intravenous, intramuscular, intradermal, subcutaneous, and inhalation).
  • Maintains records of radioisotope receipt, use, storage and disposal in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Performs quality control procedures daily, weekly and monthly to ensure state and federal compliance.
  • Organize patient orders to maximize throughput in a fast paced and constantly evolving acute care setting.
  • Strictly adheres to ALARA guidelines to minimize exposure to patient, self and others.
  • Utilizes quality communication skills for patient education and to minimize anxiety throughout the nuclear medicine experience.
  • Assure patient confidentiality by adhering to HIPAA and hospital policies.
  • Orders and maintains departmental supplies.
  • Works collaboratively with others toward improving organizational performance and supports goals and objectives of the organization.
  • Represents the organization in a professional manner when dealing with patients, other department staff and the public.
  • Assist with other duties as needed or requested.
