Oroville Hospital Provides Essential Ingredients to Prepare a Nutritious Thanksgiving Meal
Every year since 2014, Oroville Hospital has collaborated with the African American Family & Cultural Center to provide multiple families with children and elderly individuals facing hunger during the holiday season with the essential ingredients needed to prepare a well-balanced and nutritious Thanksgiving meal. This initiative is a joint effort by members of the Oroville Hospital staff along with the African American Family & Cultural Center. This year, Oroville Hospital will provide 45 Thanksgiving Baskets to families selected by the center.
“This partnership and support are essential to the mission of the African American Family & Cultural Center to reclaim, restore and revitalize our community,” expressed Cissy Smith, the center’s Assistant Director. “We are thankful for Oroville Hospital and their continued contribution to help us reach more families, children and elderly facing hunger during the holiday season.”
On Monday, November 24th, the baskets were put together by the hospital's staff members. The local families, who have been selected by the center, will each receive a turkey, canned corn and green beans, chicken broth, butter, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing mix, bread rolls, and a pumpkin pie.

Contributing to the community where we live and work is a core mission of Oroville Hospital and it is a standard upheld by its employees. Many of those who help assemble the baskets have been involved in this project since it began. The hospital is proud to continue this tradition and be able to provide multiple families with the opportunity to enjoy a special holiday meal.
The Thanksgiving Baskets is one of the many significant projects the hospital and African American Family & Cultural Center collaborate on together. The “We’ve Got Your Back” backpack and school supplies giveaway program held every August provides over a 100 backpacks and school supplies for children living in the Oroville Southside Community.
The hospital has also contributed $10,000.00 to the center’s Community Radio Station, KOYO 107.1 FM, and is a recurring sponsor of the Juneteenth Celebration each year.
