Ki Xiong, DPM Joins Oroville Hospital's Podiatry Practice

06.10.2014

Oroville Hospital welcomes Oroville native and Oroville High School graduate, Ki Xiong DPM. He will be starting July 1stat the Oroville Hospital Podiatry Practice and joining Dennis Trenner, DPM. Dr. Trenner has served the Oroville community for 24 years. They both treat a full range of podiatric problems such as bunions, hammertoe, ingrown toenails, neuropathy, plantar fasciitis, fungal toenails, warts, athlete’s foot, wound care, and corns and calluses. The expansion also means they will be able to accept Medi-Cal insurance.

“Podiatry is very hands on. You diagnose a problem, and then you perform a procedure to fix the problem. It’s very gratifying.” Explained Dr. Xiong, who will be bringing several new procedures to the Oroville area, including Charcot foot surgery (Charcot foot is a bone deformity of the foot usually secondary to nerve damage), and rear foot surgeries.

Even while attending Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, PA, Dr. Xiong knew he would be coming home one day, “This is where my family is, where my friends are, so I always intended on coming home to Oroville. Also, I received several scholarships from local organizations that made it possible for me to attend college, and I am very grateful for that. Practicing here is one way I can repay the community.”

As one of the few Hmong podiatrists in the country, Dr. Xiong feels he has a unique opportunity to reach out to the Hmong community to help treat and educate them in feet pathologies. One of his focuses is on the debilitating disease of gout. “My goal is to serve the entire community, but I know that there is a real need in the Hmong community for gout care. About three percent of the general population has gout, but for Hmong’s it is over six percent.Genetics and diet are believed to be key factors for the higher rate.”

Robert J. Wentz, President and Chief Executive Officer, welcomes Dr. Xiong to Oroville Hospital, “We are very excited to have Dr. Xiong join Oroville Hospital and compliment the podiatry services already offered by Dr. Trenner. Having Dr. Xiong on our staff will benefit our community and allow us to expand and accept Medi-Cal insurance.”
