Oroville, CA ̶ On September 17th, 2013, Oroville Hospital opened a new Radiation Oncology Clinic offering state-of-the-art technology. The clinic is located in the OroHealth Medical Plaza at 2809 Olive Highway in Suite 110. In addition, Oroville Hospital is welcoming new Radiation Oncologist, Dr. Edward Ordorica. A complete Cancer Care Program with a full range of treatment solutions, highly skilled physicians, compassionate clinical team, and state-of-the-art technology is now available for the community.
Dr. Ordorica is proud to be a part of the expansion of the Cancer Care Program, “As a board certified radiation oncologist, it is truly exciting to witness the profound enhancements at Oroville Hospital. The opening of new radiation therapy services, advanced technology and support resources all under “one roof” offers a unique convenience for my cancer patients. And, the “healing environment” is essential relative to successful patient outcomes.”
Dr. Ordorica comes to us with extensive knowledge and experience in radiation oncology. He will be treating patients with Dynamic Targeting® IGRT from Varian Medical Systems. IGRT - or image-guided radiotherapy - refers to the use of sophisticated imaging technologies to guide the delivery of precise forms of radiation therapy using advanced imaging techniques.
Radiation therapy uses focused ionizing radiation to destroy cancerous cells while minimizing exposure to the healthy tissue that surrounds the cancerous tumors. When exposed to radiation, cancer cell DNA becomes damaged and can no longer reproduce. Eventually this causes the tumor to shrink as cancerous cells die off. If radiation does reach healthy cells within the body, they have the ability to recover and repair themselves, so damage is minimal.
Robert J. Wentz, President and CEO at Oroville Hospital says, “Oroville Hospital is undergoing a historic transformation. We are investing in new services to meet the needs of our patients and their families. I am pleased to unveil a new cancer services program that is convenient, comfortable and innovative. In fact, our cancer services, from radiation therapy to clinical resources and support groups are now on campus or nearby so you never have to drive far to get the cancer treatment you or a family member needs. As I see it, an investment in cancer services is an investment in the health and wellbeing of the community we serve each day.”
